The Platte River Armory Introduction To Firearms is an instructor led beginners course designed for those individuals with little to no firearms experience or those considering purchasing their first firearm. Our heartfelt goal is to provide a positive and worthwhile experience that when completed by the student instills not only a strong sense of confidence but also a strong sense of competence.
The PRA Introduction To firearms course will consist of three hours of classroom time and two hours of time on a shooting range. The range progression starts with a student first handling inert and or toy firearms to become familiar with the proper handling and perceptual feel of a firearm. Next, the student will handle pneumatic or air rifles/pistols to practice loading, charging, holding, aiming and safely shooting these to experience the light “kick” that these types of guns deliver. After airguns, the student will use rimfire (.22) firearms and practice holding, loading/unloading, aiming and safely shooting these small caliber guns. And last, the student will use centerfire firearms (9mm/40cal-5.56) and practice holding, loading/unloading, aiming and safely shooting a larger firearm. The concept of the course is to significantly reduce or eliminate the students fear in handling and shooting a firearm and at the same time give the student a healthy respect for firearms and their capabilities.

Prohibited Range Attire:
No sandals, flip flops or sleeve less shirts allowed on the range.
